2011-06-21ixgbe: consolidate packet buffer allocationJohn Fastabend
Consolidate packet buffer allocation currently being done in the DCB path and main path. This allows the feature set and packet buffer requirements to be done once. This is prep work to allow DCB to coexist with other features namely, flow director. 2011-05-04ixgbe: improve EEPROM read/write operationsEmil Tantilov
Introduce buffered read/writes which greatly improves performance on parts with large EEPROMs. Previously reading/writing a word requires taking/releasing of synchronization semaphores which adds 10ms to each operation. The optimization is to read/write in buffers, but make sure the semaphore is not held for >500ms according to the datasheet. Since we can't read the EEPROM page size ixgbe_detect_eeprom_page_size() is used to discover the EEPROM size when needed and keeps the result in word_page_size for the rest of the run time. Use buffered reads for ethtool -e. Signed-off-by: Emil Tantilov <emil.s.tantilov@intel.com> Tested-by: Evan Swanson <evan.swanson@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Kirsher <jeffrey.t.kirsher@intel.com>
2011-04-13ixgbe: DCB, misallocated packet buffer size with X540 deviceJohn Fastabend
The X540 device has a smaller packet buffer but the DCB configuration never took this into account. Under stress this can result in the DMA engine hanging and TX Unit hang occurring to reset the device. This patch reworks the packet buffer allocation routine used for DCB on 82599 and X540 devices to account for RX packet buffer sizes. This fixes the immediate hang. We should consolidate the various hardware specific routines for configuring features into a single routine. This will make it much harder to miss feature cases like this. 2011-04-13ixgbe: move disabling of relaxed ordering in start_hw()Emil Tantilov

2011-04-13ixgbe: correct function number for some 82598 partsEmil Tantilov
Some 82598 parts have LAN0 disabled and LAN1 enabled and the LAN ID bits in Device Status register report the NIC as having only LAN1 as enabled. This causes ixgbe_set_lan_id_multi_port_pcie() to set bus->func = 1 which is incorrect. Force bus->func to 0 when LAN0 is disabled in the EEPROM. 2011-03-03ixgbe: add function pointer for semaphore functionDon Skidmore
The X540 devices grabs semaphores differently than 82599 and 82598 devices do. They do however also grab them in allot of the same functions. So I'm adding a new MAC operation function pointer to allow us to use the correct function based on our MAC type. I'm also changing all the semaphore calls to use this new function pointer. 2011-03-03ixgbe: store permanent address before initializing Rx addressesEmil Tantilov

2011-03-03ixgbe: Add ability to double reset on failure to clear master enableEmil Tantilov
Double resets are required for recovery from certain error conditions. Between resets, it is necessary to stall to allow time for any pending HW events to complete. We use 1usec since that is what is needed for ixgbe_disable_pcie_master(). The second reset then clears out any effects of those events. 2010-11-16ixgbe: DCB set PFC high and low water marks per data sheet specsJohn Fastabend
Currently the high and low water marks for PFC are being set conservatively for jumbo frames. This means the RX buffers are being underutilized in the default 1500 MTU. This patch fixes this so that the water marks are set as described in the data sheet considering the MTU size. The equation used is, RTT * 1.44 + MTU * 1.44 + MTU Where RTT is the round trip time and MTU is the max frame size in KB. To avoid floating point arithmetic FC_HIGH_WATER is defined ((((RTT + MTU) * 144) + 99) / 100) + MTU This changes how the hardware field fc.low_water and fc.high_water are used. With this change they are no longer storing the actual low water and high water markers but are storing the required head room in the buffer. This simplifies the logic and we do not need to account for the size of the buffer when setting the thresholds. Testing with iperf and 16 threads showed a slight uptick in throughput over a single traffic class .1-.2Gbps and a reduction in pause frames. Without the patch a 30 second run would show ~10-15 pause frames being transmitted with the patch ~2-5 are seen. Test were run back to back with 82599. Note RXPBSIZE is in KB and low and high water marks fields are also in KB. However the FCRT* registers are 32B granularity and right shifted 5 into the register, (((rx_pbsize - water_mark) * 1024) / 32) << 5 is the most explicit conversion here we simplify (rx_pbsize - water_mark) * 32 << 5 = (rx_pbsize - water_mark) << 10 This patch updates the PFC thresholds and legacy FC thresholds. 2010-05-20ixgbe:add support for a new 82599 10G Base-T deviceMallikarjuna R Chilakala
This adds support for a new copper device for 82599, device id 0x151c. This 82599 10GBase-T device uses the PHY's internal temperature sensor to guard against over-temp conditions. In this scenario the PHY will be put in a low power mode and link will no longer be able to transmit or receive any data. When this occurs, the over-temp interrupt is latched and driver logs this error message. A HW reset or power cycle is required to clear this status. 2009-12-15ixgbe: Fix 82598 premature copper PHY link indicatationMallikarjuna R Chilakala
Modified patch with Dave's comments to replace mdelay with proper msleep. Fix 82598 copper link issue, where the phy prematurely indicates link before it is ready to process packets. The new function looks for phy link and indicates that, when it is available. If phy is not ready within few seconds of MAC indicating link, the function will return failure which translates to link down indication. 2009-09-14ixgbe: Create separate media type for CX4 adaptersPeter P Waskiewicz Jr
Currently the media type detection for CX4 adapters lumps them into a type of fiber. This patch introduces a new media type for CX4, and puts both 82598 and 82599 CX4 adapters into this bucket. 2009-05-26ixgbe: fix 82598 SFP initialization after driver load.Don Skidmore
If we loaded the driver with out a SFP module plugged in it would leave it in a state that make it later unable to link when a module was plugged in. This patch corrects that by: ixgbe_probe() - moving the check for IXGBE_ERR_SFP_NOT_PRESENT from after get_invariants() to after reset_hw() as now reset_hw() is where this condition will be indentified. ixgbe_reset_hw_82598() - Enable this function to now return IXGBE_ERR_SFP_NOT_PRESENT. ixgbe_identify_sfp_module_generic() - This where the lack of SFP module is detected. Modifications are added to allow a different return value for modules that just haven't been plugged in yet. Other functions were updated to allow correct logging. 2009-05-17ixgbe: Allow link flow control in DCB mode for 82599 adaptersPeter P Waskiewicz Jr
82599 supports using either link flow control or priority flow control when in DCB mode. The dcbnl interface already supports sending down configurations through rtnetlink that can enable LFC when DCB is enabled, so the driver should take advantage of this. 82598 does not support using LFC when DCB is enabled, so explicitly disable it when we're in DCB mode. This means we always run in PFC mode when DCB is enabled. 2009-05-17ixgbe: Add SAN MAC address to the RAR, return the address to DCBWaskiewicz Jr, Peter P
After acquiring the SAN MAC address from the EEPROM, we need to program it into one of the RARs. Also, DCB will use this MAC address to run DCBX commands, so it doesn't have to play musical MAC addresses when things like bonding enter the picture. So we need to return the MAC address through the netlink interface to userspace. This also moves the init_rx_addrs() call out of start_hw() and into reset_hw(). We shouldn't try to read any of the RAR information before initializing our internal accounting of the RAR table, which was what was happening. The current code has some flaws in it when performing autonegotiation, especially on KX/KX4 links. This patch updates the code to better handle the autonegotiation states on link setup. The patch also removes a redundant link configuration call on driver load, and moves link configuration to the ->open() path.
