2018-05-30do d_instantiate/unlock_new_inode combinations safelyAl Viro

For anything NFS-exported we do _not_ want to unlock new inode before it has grown an alias; original set of fixes got the ordering right, but missed the nasty complication in case of lockdep being enabled - unlock_new_inode() does lockdep_annotate_inode_mutex_key(inode) which can only be done before anyone gets a chance to touch ->i_mutex. Unfortunately, flipping the order and doing unlock_new_inode() before d_instantiate() opens a window when mkdir can race with open-by-fhandle on a guessed fhandle, leading to multiple aliases for a directory inode and all the breakage that follows from that. Correct solution: a new primitive (d_instantiate_new()) combining these two in the right order - lockdep annotate, then d_instantiate(), then the rest of unlock_new_inode(). All combinations of d_instantiate() with unlock_new_inode() should be converted to that. 2017-11-30nilfs2: fix race condition that causes file system corruptionAndreas Rohner
commit 31ccb1f7ba3cfe29631587d451cf5bb8ab593550 upstream. There is a race condition between nilfs_dirty_inode() and nilfs_set_file_dirty(). When a file is opened, nilfs_dirty_inode() is called to update the access timestamp in the inode. It calls __nilfs_mark_inode_dirty() in a separate transaction. __nilfs_mark_inode_dirty() caches the ifile buffer_head in the i_bh field of the inode info structure and marks it as dirty. After some data was written to the file in another transaction, the function nilfs_set_file_dirty() is called, which adds the inode to the ns_dirty_files list. Then the segment construction calls nilfs_segctor_collect_dirty_files(), which goes through the ns_dirty_files list and checks the i_bh field. If there is a cached buffer_head in i_bh it is not marked as dirty again. Since nilfs_dirty_inode() and nilfs_set_file_dirty() use separate transactions, it is possible that a segment construction that writes out the ifile occurs in-between the two. If this happens the inode is not on the ns_dirty_files list, but its ifile block is still marked as dirty and written out. In the next segment construction, the data for the file is written out and nilfs_bmap_propagate() updates the b-tree. Eventually the bmap root is written into the i_bh block, which is not dirty, because it was written out in another segment construction. As a result the bmap update can be lost, which leads to file system corruption. Either the virtual block address points to an unallocated DAT block, or the DAT entry will be reused for something different. The error can remain undetected for a long time. A typical error message would be one of the "bad btree" errors or a warning that a DAT entry could not be found. This bug can be reproduced reliably by a simple benchmark that creates and overwrites millions of 4k files. CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps. Use current_time() instead. CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe. This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also, current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be y2038 safe. Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they share the same time granularity. 2016-08-02nilfs2: move ioctl interface and disk layout to uapi separatelyRyusuke Konishi
The header file "include/linux/nilfs2_fs.h" is composed of parts for ioctl and disk format, and both are intended to be shared with user space programs. This moves them to the uapi directory "include/uapi/linux" splitting the file to "nilfs2_api.h" and "nilfs2_ondisk.h". The following minor changes are accompanied by this migration: - nilfs_direct_node struct in nilfs2/direct.h is converged to nilfs2_ondisk.h because it's an on-disk structure. - inline functions nilfs_rec_len_from_disk() and nilfs_rec_len_to_disk() are moved to nilfs2/dir.c. 2016-08-02nilfs2: add nilfs_msg() message interfaceRyusuke Konishi
Define an own output routine to replace bare use of printk() function. The output routine is implemented with a macro and a helper function, which are named nilfs_msg() and __nilfs_msg(), respectively. __nilfs_msg() formats a message like "NILFS (<device-name>): <message>", prefixing it with a given log level, and terminates the statement with a newline. The "device-name" is optional to make it available in early stages; it will be omitted if a NULL pointer is passed to super block instance argument. nilfs_msg() wraps __nilfs_msg() and is removed if CONFIG_PRINTK is not set. 2016-06-24fs/nilfs2: fix potential underflow in call to crc32_leTorsten Hilbrich
The value `bytes' comes from the filesystem which is about to be mounted. We cannot trust that the value is always in the range we expect it to be. Check its value before using it to calculate the length for the crc32_le call. It value must be larger (or equal) sumoff + 4. This fixes a kernel bug when accidentially mounting an image file which had the nilfs2 magic value 0x3434 at the right offset 0x406 by chance. The bytes 0x01 0x00 were stored at 0x408 and were interpreted as a s_bytes value of 1. This caused an underflow when substracting sumoff + 4 (20) in the call to crc32_le. Right now ext2_get_page() (and its analogues in a bunch of other filesystems) relies upon the directory being locked - the way it sets and tests Checked and Error bits would be racy without that. Switch to a slightly different scheme, _not_ setting Checked in case of failure. That way the logics becomes if Checked => OK else if Error => fail else if !validate => fail else => OK with validation setting Checked or Error on success and failure resp. and returning which one had happened. PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. This promise never materialized. And unlikely will. We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case, especially on the border between fs and mm. Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much breakage to be doable. Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are not. The changes are pretty straight-forward: - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN}; - page_cache_get() -> get_page(); - page_cache_release() -> put_page(); This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files. I've called spatch for them manually. The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later. There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll fix them manually in a separate patch. 2016-03-17mm: introduce page reference manipulation functionsJoonsoo Kim
The success of CMA allocation largely depends on the success of migration and key factor of it is page reference count. Until now, page reference is manipulated by direct calling atomic functions so we cannot follow up who and where manipulate it. Then, it is hard to find actual reason of CMA allocation failure. CMA allocation should be guaranteed to succeed so finding offending place is really important. In this patch, call sites where page reference is manipulated are converted to introduced wrapper function. This is preparation step to add tracepoint to each page reference manipulation function. With this facility, we can easily find reason of CMA allocation failure. There is no functional change in this patch. In addition, this patch also converts reference read sites. It will help a second step that renames page._count to something else and prevents later attempt to direct access to it (Suggested by Andrew).
