Our netfilter options are stale and important things like masquerading are no longer enabled. Instead of trying to keep up with any updates, set CONFIG_NETFILTER_ADVANCED=n on ppc64* and pseries* defconfigs. This enables the most common netfilter modules for us. 2012-09-17powerpc: Add denormalisation exception handling for POWER6/7Michael Neuling
On POWER6 and POWER7 if the input operand to an instruction is a denormalised single precision binary floating point value we can take a denormalisation exception where it's expected that the hypervisor (HV=1) will fix up the inputs before the instruction is run. This adds code to handle this denormalisation exception for POWER6 and POWER7. It also add a CONFIG_PPC_DENORMALISATION option and sets it in pseries/ppc64_defconfig. This patch creates a new submenu for the NX cryptographic hardware accelerator and breaks the NX options into their own Kconfig file under drivers/crypto/nx/Kconfig. This will permit additional NX functionality to be easily and more cleanly added in the future without touching drivers/crypto/Makefile|Kconfig. When looking through some instruction traces I noticed our tracepoint checks were inline. It turns out we don't have CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL enabled. By enabling CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL we replace a load/compare/branch with a nop at every tracepoint call. 2011-05-26cgroup: remove the ns_cgroupDaniel Lezcano
The ns_cgroup is an annoying cgroup at the namespace / cgroup frontier and leads to some problems: * cgroup creation is out-of-control * cgroup name can conflict when pids are looping * it is not possible to have a single process handling a lot of namespaces without falling in a exponential creation time * we may want to create a namespace without creating a cgroup The ns_cgroup was replaced by a compatibility flag 'clone_children', where a newly created cgroup will copy the parent cgroup values. The userspace has to manually create a cgroup and add a task to the 'tasks' file. This patch removes the ns_cgroup as suggested in the following thread: https://lists.linux-foundation.org/pipermail/containers/2009-June/018616.html The 'cgroup_clone' function is removed because it is no longer used. This is a userspace-visible change. Commit 45531757b45c ("cgroup: notify ns_cgroup deprecated") (merged into 2.6.27) caused the kernel to emit a printk warning users that the feature is planned for removal. Reduce some of the differences while still keeping the idea that the ppc64 defconfig is cross platform but enables fewer features than pseries, eg NR_CPUS is lower. 2009-12-18powerpc/defconfigs: Set HZ=100 on pseries and ppc64 defconfigsAnton Blanchard
Now we have high res timers there is less of a reason for a high HZ value. Furthermore I think there a few reasons we should reduce HZ to 100: - Timer interrupt overhead. While this overhead is small, there are applications that are very sensitive to jitter (eg some HPC apps). - Issues with the timer wheel code. When coming out of NO_HZ idle we work our way through the timer code one tick at a time. If we have been idle a long time, this adds up - I sometimes see milliseconds of time spent in that loop. Long term we should fix the timer wheel algorithm, but for now if we reduce HZ then we reduce the amount of work the timer code has to do when coming out of idle. The overhead of HCALL_STATS is quite high and the functionality is very rarely used. Key statistics are also missing (eg min/max). With the new hcall tracepoints much more powerful tracing can be done in a kernel module. Lets disable this by default. Adds a character driver for BSR support on IBM POWER systems including Power5 and Power6. The BSR is an optional processor facility not currently implemented by any other processors.
