We've been getting reports of complete system lockups with rv3xx hw on AGP and PCIE when running gnome-shell or kwin with compositing. When changing VTs non-atomically the kernel works in conjunction with the Xserver in user space and receives the LUT information from the Xserver via a system call. When changing modes atomically for kdb, this information must be saved and restored without disturbing user space as if nothing ever happened. 2010-10-06drm, kdb, kms: Add an enter argument to mode_set_base_atomic() APIJason Wessel
Some devices such as the radeon chips receive information from user space which needs to be saved when executing an atomic mode set operation, else the user space would have to be queried again for the information. This patch extends the mode_set_base_atomic() call to pass an argument to indicate if this is an entry or an exit from an atomic kernel mode set change. Individual drm drivers can properly save and restore state accordingly. 2010-10-06drm/radeon/kms: remove new pll algoAlex Deucher
The recent changes to the old algo (prefer high post div) coupled with the range and precision limitations of using fixed point with the new algo make the new algo less useful. So drop the new algo. Get rid of _location and use _start/_end also simplify the computation of vram_start|end & gtt_start|end. For R1XX-R2XX we place VRAM at the same address of PCI aperture, those GPU shouldn't have much memory and seems to behave better when setup that way. For R3XX and newer we place VRAM at 0. For R6XX-R7XX AGP we place VRAM before or after AGP aperture this might limit to limit the VRAM size but it's very unlikely. For IGP we don't change the VRAM placement. Tested on (compiz,quake3,suspend/resume): PCI/PCIE:RV280,R420,RV515,RV570,RV610,RV710 AGP:RV100,RV280,R420,RV350,RV620(RPB*),RV730 IGP:RS480(RPB*),RS690,RS780(RPB*),RS880 RPB: resume previously broken V2 correct commit message to reflect more accurately the bug and move VRAM placement to 0 for most of the GPU to avoid limiting VRAM. The locking & protection of radeon object was somewhat messy. This patch completely rework it to now use ttm reserve as a protection for the radeon object structure member. It also shrink down the various radeon object structure by removing field which were redondant with the ttm information. 2009-10-12drm/radeon/kms: Update memory bandwidth requirements in mode_set_base hook.Michel Dänzer
The hook may change the number of bytes per pixel being scanned out, which affects the CRTC memory bandwidth requirements. E.g. booting in 8bpp and then running X in 32bpp would result in the bandwidth requirements being underestimated for the latter and consequently in CRTC FIFO underruns causing visible artifacts with 3D intensive workloads.
