2011-04-29[media] v4l: make sure drivers supply a zeroed struct v4l2_subdevHerton Ronaldo Krzesinski
Some v4l drivers currently don't initialize their struct v4l2_subdev with zeros, and this is a problem since some of the v4l2 code expects this. One example is the addition of internal_ops in commit 45f6f84, after that we are at risk of random oopses with these drivers when code in v4l2_device_register_subdev tries to dereference sd->internal_ops->*, as can be shown by the report at http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745213 and analysis of its crash at https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/4/1/168 Use kzalloc within problematic drivers to ensure we have a zeroed struct v4l2_subdev. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-04-06V4L/DVB (11380): v4l2-subdev: change s_routing prototypeHans Verkuil
It is no longer needed to use a struct pointer as argument, since v4l2_subdev doesn't require that ioctl-like approach anymore. Instead just pass the input, output and config (new!) arguments directly. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2009-03-30V4L/DVB (11304): v4l2: remove v4l2_subdev_command calls where they are no ↵Hans Verkuil
longer needed. Several i2c drivers still used v4l2_subdev_command, even though they were converted to v4l2_subdev. Remove those unused .command callbacks. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2009-01-02V4L/DVB (10141): v4l2: debugging API changed to match against driver name ↵Hans Verkuil
instead of ID. Since the i2c driver ID will be removed in the near future we have to modify the v4l2 debugging API to use the driver name instead of driver ID. Note that this API is not used in applications other than v4l2-dbg.cpp as it is for debugging and testing only. Should anyone use the old VIDIOC_G_CHIP_IDENT, then this will be logged with a warning that it is deprecated and will be removed in 2.6.30. 2008-05-18i2c: Convert remaining new-style drivers to use module aliasingJean Delvare
Update all the remaining new-style i2c drivers to use standard module aliasing instead of the old driver_name/type driver matching scheme. Note that the tuner driver is a bit quirky at the moment, as it overwrites i2c_client.name with arbitrary strings. We write "tuner" back on remove, to make sure that driver cycling will work properly, but there may still be troublesome corner cases. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>
2008-04-29i2c: Add support for device alias namesJean Delvare
Based on earlier work by Jon Smirl and Jochen Friedrich. This patch allows new-style i2c chip drivers to have alias names using the official kernel aliasing system and MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(). At this point, the old i2c driver binding scheme (driver_name/type) is still supported. 2007-03-01V4L/DVB (5304): Improve chip matching in v4l2_registerHans Verkuil
The chip matching in struct v4l2_register for VIDIOC_DBG_G/S_REGISTER was rather primitive. It could not be extended to other busses besides i2c and it lacked a way to. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2007-02-21V4L/DVB (5163): Add checks for CAP_SYS_ADMIN to VIDIOC_DBG_G_REGISTERTrent Piepho
Before, root privileges were only needed to set hardware registers, not to read them. On some hardware, reading from the wrong place at the wrong time can hang the machine. So, to be consistent, root privileges are required to read registers on all hardware. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2007-02-21V4L/DVB (5146): Make VIDIOC_INT_[SG]_REGISTER ioctls no longer internal onlyTrent Piepho
The direct register access ioctls were defined as kernel internal only, but they are very useful for debugging hardware from userspace and are used as such. Officially export them. VIDIOC_INT_[SG]_REGISTER is renamed to VIDIOC_DBG_[SG]_REGISTER Definition of ioctl and struct v4l2_register is moved from v4l2-common.h to videodev2.h. Types used in struct v4l2_register are changed to the userspace exportable versions (u32 -> __u32, etc). Use of VIDIOC_DBG_S_REGISTER requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN permission, so move the check into the video_ioctl2() dispatcher so it doesn't need to be duplicated in each driver's call-back function. CAP_SYS_ADMIN check is added to pvrusb2 (which doesn't use video_ioctl2). Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
