2018-12-13usbnet: ipheth: fix potential recvmsg bug and recvmsg bug 2Bernd Eckstein
[ Upstream commit 45611c61dd503454b2edae00aabe1e429ec49ebe ] The bug is not easily reproducable, as it may occur very infrequently (we had machines with 20minutes heavy downloading before it occurred) However, on a virual machine (VMWare on Windows 10 host) it occurred pretty frequently (1-2 seconds after a speedtest was started) dev->tx_skb mab be freed via dev_kfree_skb_irq on a callback before it is set. Before, usb_submit_urb was called and _after_ that, the skb was attached (dev->tx_skb). So, on a callback it was possible, however unlikely that the skb was freed before it was set. That way (because dev->tx_skb was not set to NULL after it was freed), it could happen that a skb from a earlier transmission was freed a second time (and the skb we should have freed did not get freed at all) Now we free the skb directly in ipheth_tx(). It is not passed to the callback anymore, eliminating the posibility of a double free of the same skb. Depending on the retval of usb_submit_urb() we use dev_kfree_skb_any() respectively dev_consume_skb_any() to free the skb. 2014-06-02ipheth: Add support for iPad 2 and iPad 3Kristian Evensen
Each iPad model has a different product id, this patch adds support for iPad 2 (pid 0x12a2) and iPad 3 (pid 0x12a6). Note that iPad 2 must be jailbroken and a third-party app must be used for tethering to work. On iPad 3, tethering works out of the box (assuming your ISP is nice). Most are just a left over from __devinit and __cpuinit removal, or simply due to code getting copied from one driver to the next. 2012-05-18USB: Disable hub-initiated LPM for comms devices.Sarah Sharp
Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices. Comms devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished. Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state, using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their data transfer. If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of receiving data. Worse, some devices might blindly accept the hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the middle of receiving a transmission. The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host. In order to keep the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the same in Linux. Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications drivers. I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do. 2011-05-08ipheth: Properly distinguish length and alignment in URBs and skbsBen Hutchings
The USB protocol this driver implements appears to require 2 bytes of padding in front of each received packet. This used to be equal to the value of NET_IP_ALIGN on x86, so the driver abused that constant and mostly worked, but this is no longer the case. The driver also mixed up the URB and packet lengths, resulting in 2 bytes of junk at the end of the skb. 2010-09-09ipheth: remove incorrect devtype to WWANDan Williams
The 'wwan' devtype is meant for devices that require preconfiguration and *every* time setup before the ethernet interface can be used, like cellular modems which require a series of setup commands on serial ports or other mechanisms before the ethernet interface will handle packets. As ipheth only requires one-per-hotplug pairing setup with no preconfiguration (like APN, phone #, etc) and the network interface is usable at any time after that initial setup, remove the incorrect devtype wwan.
