2014-06-17rt2x00: fix rfkill regression on rt2500pciStanislaw Gruszka
As reported by Niels, starting rfkill polling during device probe (commit e2bc7c5, generally sane change) broke rfkill on rt2500pci device. I considered that bug as some initalization issue, which should be fixed on rt2500pci specific code. But after several attempts (see bug report for details) we fail to find working solution. Hence I decided to revert to old behaviour on rt2500pci to fix regression. Additionally patch also unregister rfkill on device remove instead of ifconfig down, what was another issue introduced by bad commit. Ether_addr_equal_64bits is more efficient than ether_addr_equal, and can be used when each argument is an array within a structure that contains at least two bytes of data beyond the array. The structures involved are: ieee80211_bar defined in include/linux/ieee80211.h and rt2x00_bar_list_entry defined in drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2x00.h. Commit "rt2x00: fix HT TX descriptor settings regression" assumes that the control parameter to rt2x00mac_tx is always non-NULL. There is an internal call in rt2x00lib_bc_buffer_iter where NULL is passed. Fix the resulting crash by adding an initialized dummy on-stack ieee80211_tx_control struct. 2013-07-03drivers: avoid format strings in names passed to alloc_workqueue()Kees Cook
For the workqueue creation interfaces that do not expect format strings, make sure they cannot accidently be parsed that way. Additionally, clean up calls made with a single parameter that would be handled as a format string. Many callers are passing potentially dynamic string content, so use "%s" in those cases to avoid any potential accidents. 2013-06-12rt2x00: move extra_tx_headroom field from rt2x00_ops to rt2x00_devGabor Juhos
The extra_tx_headroom field of struct rt2x00_ops indicates the extra TX headroom size required for a given device. This data is redundant, the value can be computed from the desc_size and winfo_size fields of the TX queues. Move the extra_tx_headroom field to struct rt2x00_dev, compute its value in the probe routine and use the cached value in the rest of the code. 2013-01-22rt2x00: Improve TX status handling for BlockAckReq framesHelmut Schaa
Since rt2800 hardware isn't capable of reporting the TX status of BlockAckReq frames implement the TX status handling of BARs in rt2x00lib. We keep track of all BARs that are send out and try to match incoming BAs to the appropriate BARs. This allows us to report a more or less accurate TX status for BAR frames which in turn improves BA session stability. This is loosley based on Christian Lamparter's patch for carl9170 "carl9170: fix HT peer BA session corruption". We have to walk the list of pending BARs for every rx'red BA even though most BAs don't belong to any of these BARs as they are just acknowledging an AMPDU. To keep that overhead low use RCU which allows us to walk the list of pending BARs without the need to acquire a lock. This however requires us to _copy_ relevant information from the BAR (RA, TA, control field, start sequence number) into our BAR list entry. In commit 'mac80211: support radiotap vendor namespace RX data' new fields were added to 'struct ieee80211_rx_status' and those fileds must be zeroed. However the rt2x00 driver stores driver specific data in the cb array of the rx skbs, so the fields might contain garbage and this can cause unexpected behaviour. 2012-11-09mac80211: clarify interface iteration and make it configurableJohannes Berg
During hardware restart, all interfaces are iterated even though they haven't been re-added to the driver, document this behaviour. The same also happens during resume, which is even more confusing since all of the interfaces were previously removed from the driver. Make this optional so drivers relying on the current behaviour can still use it, but to let drivers that don't want this behaviour disable it. Mac80211 has formal infrastructure to specify which interface combinations are supported. Make use of this facility in favor of open coding it ourselves. So far we only have to specify we can support multiple AP interfaces, no other combinations are supported. Inspired by an earlier patch from Paul Fertser. 2012-09-05rt2800usb: Added rx packet length validity checkSergei Poselenov
On our system (ARM Cortex-M3 SOC running linux-2.6.33) frequent crashes were observed in the rt2800usb module because of the invalid length of the received packet (3392, 46920...). This patch adds the sanity check on the packet legth. Also, changed WARNING to ERROR in rt2x00lib_rxdone() so that the bad packet condition would be noticed. The fix was tested on the latest compat-wireless-3.5.1-1-snpc. Remove the control.sta pointer from ieee80211_tx_info to free up sufficient space in the TX skb control buffer for the upcoming Transmit Power Control (TPC). 2012-04-17rt2x00: Don't let mac80211 send a BAR when an AMPDU subframe failsAndreas Hartmann
There are connection stalls or very poor throughputs with rt2800 hardware using 802.11n in AP mode since patch "mac80211: retry sending failed BAR frames later instead of tearing down aggr"[1][2]. Since rt2800 hardware is not able to correctly report the tx status of BAR frames, this patch removes as workaround the existing error handling on AP side, which lets mac80211 send a BAR when an AMPDU subframe fails. As a result, most wifi clients (aside from Intel STAs on Windows) instead will timeout now the reorder buffer and request the lost frame again. The correct solution would be, to tear down BA session on AP side. This patch was born on the basis of "[RFT] rt2x00: Tear down BA session on QoS frame failure"[3]. Currently we read tx status register after each urb data transfer. As callback procedure also trigger reading, that causing we have many "threads" of reading status. To prevent that introduce TX_STATUS_READING flags, and check if we are already in process of sequential reading TX_STA_FIFO, before requesting new reads. Change timer to hrtimer, that make TX_STA_FIFO overruns less possible. Use 200 us for initial timeout, and then reschedule in 100 us period, this values probably have to be tuned. Make changes on txdone work. Schedule it from rt2800usb_tx_sta_fifo_read_completed() callback when first valid status show up. Check in callback if tx status timeout happens, and schedule work on that condition too. That make possible to remove tx status timeout from generic watchdog. I moved that to rt2800usb. Loop in txdone work, that should prevent situation when we queue work, which is already processed, and after finish work is not rescheduled again. Is possible that we stop queue and then do not wake up it again, especially when packets are transmitted fast. That can be easily reproduced with modified tx queue entry_num to some small value e.g. 16. If mac80211 already hold local->queue_stop_reason_lock, then we can wait on that lock in both rt2x00queue_pause_queue() and rt2x00queue_unpause_queue(). After drooping ->queue_stop_reason_lock is possible that __ieee80211_wake_queue() will be performed before __ieee80211_stop_queue(), hence we stop queue and newer wake up it again. Another race condition is possible when between rt2x00queue_threshold() check and rt2x00queue_pause_queue() we will process all pending tx buffers on different cpu. This might happen if for example interrupt will be triggered on cpu performing rt2x00mac_tx(). To prevent race conditions serialize pause/unpause by queue->tx_lock. 2011-11-15rt2x00: Fix sleep-while-atomic bug in powersaving code.Gertjan van Wingerde
The generic powersaving code that determines after reception of a frame whether the device should go back to sleep or whether is could stay awake was calling rt2x00lib_config directly from RX tasklet context. On a number of the devices this call can actually sleep, due to having to confirm that the sleeping commands have been executed successfully. Fix this by moving the call to rt2x00lib_config to a workqueue call. This implements a basic sta_add and sta_remove callback. Introduce a new structure rt2x00_sta and ask mac80211 to allocate it as private part of its ieee80211_sta. rt2x00_sta only contains the WCID for now. The sta_add callback allows the driver to assign a WCID to a station that is currently being added. The same wcid is also passed to the sta_remove callback one mac80211 removes this STA. 2011-08-09rt2x00: Fix PCI interrupt processing race on SMP systemsHelmut Schaa
When toggle_irq is called for PCI devices to disable device interrupts it used tasklet_disable to wait for a possibly running tasklet to finish. However, on SMP systems the tasklet might still be scheduled on another CPU. Instead, use tasklet_kill to ensure that all scheduled tasklets are finished before returning from toggle_irq. Furthermore, it was possible that a tasklet reenabled its interrupt even though interrupts have been disabled already. Fix this by checking the DEVICE_STATE_ENABLED_RADIO flag before reenabling single interrupts during tasklet processing. While at it also enable/kill the TBTT and PRETBTT tasklets in the toggle_irq callback and only use tasklet_kill in stop_queue to wait for a currently scheduled beacon update before returning.
