[ Upstream commit 0fb9342d06b0f667b915ba58bfefc030e534a218 ] parse_options() in drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.c calls uart_parse_earlycon in drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c therefore selecting SERIAL_EARLYCON should automatically select SERIAL_CORE, otherwise will result in symbol not found error during linking if SERIAL_CORE is not configured as builtin Fixes: 9aac5887595b ("tty/serial: add generic serial earlycon") Signed-off-by: Tong Zhang <ztong0001@gmail.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20200828123949.2642-1-ztong0001@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>

Earlycon allows to have an early debugging console that doesn't need to be statically configured in the kernel config, like earlyprintk, but is set up through the stdout-path DT property. This allows to have the early debugging always built into the kernel and enabled on demand without clashing between different boards or architectures. A configuration that enables earlycon but not the core console code causes a link error: drivers/built-in.o: In function `setup_earlycon': drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.c:70: undefined reference to `uart_parse_earlycon' That error can be triggered by the newly added samsung earlycon support, which is missing a 'select' statement. 2014-11-22serial: samsung: Fix serial config dependencies for exynos7Pankaj Dubey
Exynos7 has a similar serial controller to that present in older Samsung SoCs. To re-use the existing serial driver on Exynos7 we need to have SERIAL_SAMSUNG_UARTS_4 and SERIAL_SAMSUNG_UARTS selected. This is not possible because these symbols are dependent on PLAT_SAMSUNG which is not present for the ARMv8 based exynos7. Change the dependency of these symbols from PLAT_SAMSUNG to the serial driver thus making it available on exynos7. As the existing platform specific code making use of these symbols is related to uart driver this change in dependency should not cause any issues. 2014-09-08ARM: meson: serial: add MesonX SoC on-chip uart driverCarlo Caione
The SoC has four fully functional UARTs which use the same programming model. They are named UART_A, UART_B, UART_C and UART_AO (Always-On) which cannot be powered off. Signed-off-by: Carlo Caione <carlo@caione.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2014-09-08serial: clps711x: Use mctrl_gpio helpers for handling modem signalsAlexander Shiyan
CLPS711X serial driver uses the system wide registers to control the modem signals. Now gpio-syscon driver can be used for this purposes. mctrl_gpio helpers allow us to create GPIO bindings for any of modem/tty control signals that extends the functionality of the driver. This patch makes such change. This change does not break any current DT bindings, since DT support for this platform is not introduced yet.
