2009-04-02V4L: v4l2-common: remove incorrect MODULE testHans Verkuil
upstream commit: d64260d58865004c6354e024da3450fdd607ea07 v4l2-common doesn't have to be a module for it to call request_module(). Just remove that test. Without this patch loading ivtv as a module while v4l2-common is compiled into the kernel will cause a delayed load of the i2c modules that ivtv needs since request_module is never called directly. While it is nice to see the delayed load in action, it is not so nice in that ivtv fails to do a lot of necessary i2c initializations and will oops later on with a division-by-zero. 2009-04-02ath5k: warn and correct rate for unknown hw rate indexesBob Copeland
upstream commit: b726604706ad88d8b28bc487e45e710f58cc19ee ath5k sets up a mapping table from the hardware rate index to the rate index used by mac80211; however, we have seen some received frames with incorrect rate indexes. Such frames normally get dropped with a warning in __ieee80211_rx(), but it doesn't include enough information to track down the error. This patch adds a warning to hw_to_driver_rix for any lookups that result in a rate index of -1, then returns a valid rate so the frame can be processed. 2009-04-02ath5k: disable MIB interruptsBob Copeland
upstream commit: 9ca9fb8aa8422595956af9681518cdb8b167055e The MIB interrupt fires whenever counters overflow; however without support for automatic noise immunity, we can sometimes get an interrupt storm. The get_stats() callback reads the counters anyway so we can disable the interrupt for now until ANI is implemented. This fixes the issue reported in http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12647. In at least one device (a Saitek Cyborg Gold 3D joystick), attempts to read the Configuration string cause the device to stop responding to Control requests. This patch (as1226) adds a quirks flag, telling the kernel not to read a device's Configuration or Interface strings, together with a new quirk for the offending joystick. 2009-04-02USB: gadget: fix rndis regressionDavid Brownell
upstream commit: 090b90118207e786d2990310d063fda5d52cce6e Restore some code that was wrongly dropped from the RNDIS driver, and caused interop problems observed with OpenMoko. The issue is with hardware which needs help conforming to part of the USB 2.0 spec (section 8.5.3.2); some can automagically send a ZLP in response to an unexpected IN, but not all chips will do that. We don't need to check the packet length ourselves the way earlier code did, since the UDC must already check it. But we do need to tell the UDC when it must force a short packet termination of the data stage. (Based on a patch from Aric D. 2009-04-02USB: usb-storage: increase max_sectors for tape drivesAlan Stern

By default usb-storage sets max_sectors to 240 (i.e., 120 KB) for all devices. But tape drives need a higher limit, since tapes can and do have very large block sizes. Without the ability to transfer an entire large block in a single command, such tapes can't be used. This fixes Bugzilla #12207. But the sat to cypress atacb translation supposed the ->cmnd buffer wasn't modified. This patch makes it set the ->cmnd buffer after scsi_eh_prep_cmnd call. The problem and a fix was reported by Matthieu CASTET <castet.matthieu@free.fr> It also removes all the hackery fiddling of scsi_cmnd and scsi_eh_save by requesting from scsi_eh_prep_cmnd to prepare a read into ->sense_buffer, which is much more suitable a buffer for HW transfers, then after the command execution the regs read is copied into regs buffer before actual preparation of sense_buffer. Also fix an alien comment character to my utf-8 editor. 2009-04-02USB: EHCI: add software retry for transaction errorsAlan Stern
upstream commit: a2c2706e1043c17139c2dafd171c4a5cf008ef7e This patch (as1204) adds a software retry mechanism to ehci-hcd. It gets invoked when the driver encounters transaction errors on an asynchronous endpoint. On many systems, hardware deficiencies cause such errors to occur if one device is unplugged while the host is communicating with another device. With the patch, the failed transactions are retried and generally succeed the second or third time through. This is based on code originally written by Koichiro Saito. Also, since we fully construct phy_bus_id in the _probe() routine, we no longer need ->phy_address and ->mdio_bus fields in ucc_geth_info structure. I wish the patch would be a bit shorter, but it seems like the only way to fix the issue in a sane way. Luckily, the patch has been tested with real PHYs and fixed-link, so no further regressions expected. 2009-03-22dm9000: locking bugfixDavid Brownell
This fixes a locking bug in the dm9000 driver. It calls request_irq() without setting IRQF_DISABLED ... which is correct for handlers that support IRQ sharing, since that behavior is not guaranteed for shared IRQs. However, its IRQ handler then wrongly assumes that IRQs are blocked. So the fix just uses the right spinlock primitives in the IRQ handler. NOTE: this is a classic example of the type of bug which lockdep currently masks by forcibly setting IRQF_DISABLED on IRQ handlers that did not request that flag. 2009-03-22radeonfb: Whack the PCI PM register until it sticksBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This fixes a regression introduced when we switched to using the core pci_set_power_state(). The chip seems to need the state to be written over and over again until it sticks, so we do that. Note that the code is a bit blunt, without timeout, etc... but that's pretty much because I put back in there the code exactly as it used to be before the regression. I still add a call to pci_set_power_state() at the end so that ACPI gets called appropriately on x86. 2009-03-18smsc911x: reset last known duplex and carrier on openSteve Glendinning
smsc911x_phy_adjust_link is called periodically by the phy layer (as it's run in polling mode), and it only updates the hardware when it sees a change in duplex or carrier. This patch clears the last known values every time the interface is brought up, instead of only when the module is loaded. Without this patch the adjust_link function never updates the hardware after an ifconfig down; ifconfig up. On a full duplex link this causes the tx error counter to increment, even though packets are correctly transmitted, as the default MAC_CR register setting is for half duplex. The tx errors are "no carrier" errors, which should be ignored in full-duplex mode. When MAC_CR is set to "full duplex" mode they are correctly ignored by the hardware. Note that even with this patch the tx error counter can increment if packets are transmitted between "ifconfig up" and the first phy poll interval. An improved solution would use the phy interrupt with phylib, but I haven't managed to make this work 100% robustly yet. 2009-03-18tulip: fix crash on iface up with shirq debugKyle McMartin
Tulip is currently doing request_irq before it has done its initialization. This is usually not a problem because it hasn't enable interrupts yet, but with DEBUG_SHIRQ on, we call the irq handler when registering the interrupt as a sanity check. This can result in a NULL ptr dereference, so call tulip_init_ring before request_irq, and add a free_ring function to do the freeing now shared with tulip_close. This allows a seamless experience with e.g., qemu/kvm where NetworkManager just configures and sets up everything automagically. If/when a generally agreed-upon way to control carrier on/off in the emulator/hypervisor level emerges, it will be trivial to extend the driver to support that too, but for now even this 2-liner makes user experience that much better. The 802.3ad and balance-alb/tlb modes utilize the speed and duplex information, and require it to be kept up to date. 2009-03-18bnx2: Fix problem of using wrong IRQ handler.Michael Chan
The MSI-X handler was chosen before the call to pci_enable_msix(). If MSI-X was not available, the wrong MSI-X handler would be used in INTA mode. This would cause a screaming interrupt problem because INTA would not be cleared by the MSI-X handler. Fixed by assigning MSI-X handler after pci_enable_msix() returns successfully. 2009-03-17USB: EHCI: expedite unlinks when the root hub is suspendedAlan Stern
This patch (as1225) fixes a bug in ehci-hcd. The condition for whether unlinked QHs can become IDLE should not be that the controller is halted, but rather that the controller isn't running. In other words when the root hub is suspended, the hardware doesn't own any QHs. This fixes a problem that can show up during hibernation: If a QH is only partially unlinked when the root hub is frozen, then when the root hub is thawed the QH won't be in the IDLE state. As a result it can't be used properly for new URB submissions. 2009-03-17USB: EHCI: Fix isochronous URB leakKarsten Wiese
ehci-hcd uses usb_get_urb() and usb_put_urb() in an unbalanced way causing isochronous URB's kref.counts incrementing once per usb_submit_urb() call. The culprit is *usb being set to NULL when usb_put_urb() is called after URB is given back. Due to other fixes there is no need for ehci-hcd to deal with usb_get_urb() nor usb_put_urb() anymore, so patch removes their usages in ehci-hcd. Patch also makes ehci_to_hcd(ehci)->self.bandwidth_allocated adjust, if a stream finishes.
